Organisation
Power will work together with Forward Nigeria, a local non-governmental organisation, that takes care of the operations of the young women and socio-economical rehabilitation of the patients. The patients stay in the rehabilitation centre for a minimum of six months during which they follow Arabic and Hausa lessons as well as training in income generating activities.
CO Foundation will act as the implementing agent and thus take care of the financial arrangements between Power and Forward Nigeria. CO Foundation will be responsible for the money stream as well as supervision and reporting to the Netherlands.
In addition, CO Foundation will work together with Power and the IFMSA (International Federation of Medical Students’ Associations) in order to organise practical attachments for medical students.
Activities
The year 2006 has been marked by fundraise activities and the approval of Wild Geese to increase the money that was received by Power.
The actual activities commenced in June 2007. The activities started with the renovation of the rehabilitation and refurbishment centres in Danbatta and Jahun. New batches of girls have started their rehabilitation since March 2007. The first student, Josine Blanksma, is currently attached to the project and is doing research on the reasons for the development of the fistulas.
